Stephanie contacted me in February about officiating her marriage to Scott on April 21, 2012 at 3:00 PM. She wanted a simple ceremony that would include her children, Harrison and Elaina. I sent her a proposed ceremony with a children's blessing and a family unity sand ceremony. Young children get so excited about pouring their special sand into a container with the bride and groom! It is a wonderful symbol of the coming together of a family. I also included a tribute to both sets of parents who would also be present. She and Scott edited the ceremony to their satisfaction and sent it back to me and we were all set! That Saturday was one that was sunny one minute and pouring rain the next. Lucky for us, we had a nice window of sunshine for the wedding--after we dried all the chairs off from the last little sprinkle of rain.
The wedding was at the home of Scott's parents in Cary and his mother greeted me and Marty at the door. When we walked in, Scott's brother, Steve and his wife, Nicole, recognized me and exclaimed "You married us!" Scott and Stephanie had no idea of this connection so it was a big surprise for us all. Their wedding was in 2010 at the Second Empire. What a wild coincidence!
After everyone got down to the ceremony site in the back yard, Steve started the music and Stephanie and her children entered. Harrison escorted his mother while Elaina was our flower girl.

It was a very pretty wooded setting. They had put up two trellises and covered them with greenery and flowers and placed pots of starfire lilies here and there.

The tablecloth had gotten rained on but fortunately the bottles of sand were corked and the sand was dry.
Elaina and Harrison pour their sand in the central container.

What a happy family! Stephanie's father told me after the ceremony that it was the best wedding ceremony he had ever heard. I also overheard him say that he did not have to worry about Stephanie any more because this time she had the right husband! Stephanie and Scott, have a wonderful life together and do call on me if you need me for a baby blessing ceremony some day!
